Per unit of time is taken the duration of one point. The duration of a dash is three dots. Pause between elements of the same sign — one point, between the characters in the word is 3 dots, between words is 7 dots, the method is named after the American inventor and artist Samuel Morse.
Alphabetic codes were added colleague Morse, Alfred Weil — a fact that Morse subsequently strongly denied (and at the same time attributed to himself the invention of the Telegraph as such), Weil, perhaps, was invented and the digital part of the code, and in 1848 Weil code/Morse code was perfected by the German Friedrich Gerke (eng.), code, advanced Gerke, used up to the present time.
